PowerTex India Scheme

Why in News -: 


The Government is implementing Power Tex India, a comprehensive scheme for power loom sector development.
Under the scheme, existing plain powerlooms are upgraded to semi-automatic and shuttleless looms to improve quality and productivity, by providing financial assistance to powerloomunits. So far, more than 2.16 lakh looms have been upgraded in the country under the in-situ upgradation component of the scheme.


Background -: 

The Government has launched PowerTex India, a comprehensive scheme for powerloom sector development, simultaneously at over 45 locations in the country on April 2017.


Features -: 
The comprehensive scheme has the following components:
  • In-situ Upgradation of Plain Powerlooms
  • Group Workshed Scheme (GWS)
  • Yarn Bank Scheme
  • Common Facility Centre (CFC)
  • Pradhan Mantri Credit Scheme for Powerloom Weavers
  • Solar Energy Scheme for Powerlooms
  • Facilitation, IT, Awareness, Market Development and Publicity for Powerloom Schemes
  • Tex Venture Capital Fund
  • Grant-in-Aid and Modernisation & Upgradation of Powerloom Service Centres (PSCs)
Some Important Points -: 
For implementing Amended Technology Upgradation Funds Scheme (ATUFS), a comprehensivei-TUFS software has been developed.
 Through the iTUFS software, the beneficiary units can directly upload their applications. The beneficiary units can also track their application at each stage of the process.

Background -:  Maritime sector in India has been the backbone of the country’s trade and has grown manifold over the years. To harness India’s 7,500 km long coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways and strategic location on key international maritime trade routes, the Government of India has embarked on the ambitious Sagarmala Programme which aims to promote port-led development in the country.   Introduction -:  Vidya Lakshmi Portal was launched by the Government on August 15, 2015 t o ensure that students can avail loans easily through single window system of banks for education loans.  Banks follow Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) guidelines in this regard which stipulates that education loan applications have to be disposed off, in the normal course, within a period of 15 to 30 days.
