International Buddhist Conclave 2018

Why in News -:  The President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate the “ International Buddhist Conclave (IBC), 2018”  in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 23 rd  August, 2018. Implementation Agency-:  The Conclave is being organized by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the State Governments of Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from 23 rd  – 26 th  August, 2018 at New Delhi and Ajanta (Maharashtra), followed by site visits to Rajgir, Nalanda and Bodhgaya (Bihar) and Sarnath (Uttar Pradesh). “Digital Screens”

  Why in News -:  In the wake of Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for creating digital museums at stations using QR code, Ministry of Railway has made “digital screens” operational at 22 stations on this Independence Day (15.08.2018) as an innovative low cost solution to  spread awareness among public about the opulent heritage of Indian Railways. Pulses Utilization Under Welfare Scheme

Why in News -:  The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the release of pulses to States/UTs at discounted rate to be utilized for various Welfare Schemes from the stock of pulses procured under Price Support Schemes (PSS). Impact: The decision will enable the States/UTs to use pulses in various Welfare Schemes like PDS, Mid-Day Meal Scheme etc. besides making available the warehouses, which may be required in coming Kharif season for storage of commodities procured under Price Support Scheme. Details: Under this approved Scheme, the States/UT Governments are offered to lift 34.88 lakh MT of Tur, Chana, Masoor, Moong and Urad at discount of Rs.15 per Kg over the prevailing wholesale market price of the sourcing state on First come first serve basis.  The State/UTs Governments utilize these pulses in their various Welfare Schemes/Programmes like Mid-Day Meal, Public Distribution System, Integrated Ch...

National Disaster Response Force(NDRF)

Why in News -:   The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the approval for  raising of four (4) additional battalions of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to strengthen the India's disaster response set up at an estimated cost of Rs 637 crore. Details: The objective of raising four additional battalions is to reduce the response time keeping in view the vast geographic area of the country. These four battalions will initially be raised as two battalions in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and one battalion each in Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Rifles (ARs). Later these four battalions will be converted into NDRF battalions. Based on the vulnerability profile, these four battalions will be placed in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi National Capital Region. About -:  Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana ( PMSBY) was launched on 9 th  May, 2015 with a view to enhance the level of insurance penetration in the country and to provide insurance cover to common people especially poor and the Under-privileged Sections of the society.  Effect -:  The enrolments under PMSBY have gradually increased since its launch. What is it -: Government e- Marketplace (GeM) is an online platform for government users which was launched on 9th August, 2016. As an initiative to improve transparency in procurement , Government has set up Government e- Marketplace as a 100% Government owned company registered under the Companies Act, 2013 for providing online platform for procurement of common use goods and services by government organizations. Features -:  It leverages technology to enhance transparency, efficiency and speed in public procurement.  It provides the tools of e-bidding, reverse e-auction and demand aggregation to facilitate the government users, achieve the best value of their money.  It is paperless, cashless and contactless platform giving end to end solution. All the State Governments are utilising the services offered by Government e-Marketplace.

Working Women Hostels Scheme

 About the Scheme -:  Ministry of Women and Child Development is implementing Hostels for Working Women Scheme since 1972-73.  Objective -:  The Scheme aims at providing safe and affordable accommodation to working women. Features -:  These hostels have Day care facility for the children of inmates too.  As per the norms of the Scheme, financial assistance is provided to the eligible implementing organizations such as State Government agencies and Civil Society Organizations through concerned State Government.  There is also a provision of   one-time non-recurring grant @ Rs. 7500/- per inmate for purchase of furniture and furnishings.
